Coneys (Tailors) Ltd trading as CONEYS of Boston is a wholly owned family business engaged in the retailing of high quality mens, ladies and childrens clothing and accessories.
The current chairman and managing director is Mr A.L.Coney who together with his daughter, Mrs Gillian Brown, form the board of directors.
CONEYS has been trading in Boston since 1896, when a shop was located in Strait Bargate, adjacent to what is now W.H.Smith. The company’s origins can however be traced back to Alford in Lincolnshire dating around 1856. At one time as many as eleven tailors shops traded as CONEYS, with locations throughout the county.
A limited company was formed in 1956 and the business moved to its present location 34-36 Wide Bargate. Surrounding shops were purchased as they became vacant. Following major re-developments in the late 1960s a ladies department was added and more recently in 2001 a childrens wear department was also included. In 1986 the adjoining banana warehouse in Tawney Street was opened. At first it was a young fashion department, but more recently it became a restaurant/coffee shop, moving the young fashion department to within the main building which currently provides more than 7,500 sq ft of selling space. Recently the two properties next door were purchased ready for future expansion.
It is the avowed intention of the current owners and management that CONEYS continues to grow in size and stature. To achieve this CONEYS is dedicated to stocking the finest quality brands and labels, and to giving the best service to its clientele.
CONEYS is constantly looking at ways of progress and moving its business forward, it is at present involved in a re-vamp of the store, and widening its focus on various makes and brands.
